City's Growth Vision Endorsed by Cabinet

Milton Keynes Council's Liberal Democrat Cabinet endorsed the "Core Strategy" - a crucial development plan which sets out the vision for the Borough until the year 2026. Having already undergone initial stages of consultation with the public and stakeholders, the Strategy (with some amendments accepted by the Liberal Democrats) was endorsed by the full Council on 12 January.

Government inspectors who carried out an unannounced inspection of the contact, referral and assessment arrangements within Milton Keynes Council Children's Services have reported no areas for priority action. This puts Milton Keynes in the top half of all authorities inspected.

Milton Keynes Children's Services are improving. In an official publication of Ofsted ratings for all local authority children's services in England, Milton Keynes is said to be "performing adequately". This is a move in the right direction from its rating of "inadequate" in 2008 and a step that has contributed to the Council's improved rating in the Comprehensive Area Assessment.

15-year Deal Signed on Recycling Facility

In a recent ceremony, Milton Keynes Council awarded the contract to manage the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Old Wolverton to Community Waste Ltd until 2024.
