Liberal Democrat Pre-Election Manifesto on Crime Launched

7.27.38pm GMT Thu 25th Nov 2004

Jane Carr, the Liberal Democrats' Parliamentary Candidate for North-East Milton Keynes, this week launched the Party's Pre-Election Manifesto on crime to local residents and set out what it will mean for the people of Milton Keynes and surrounding villages.

A liberal outlook doesn't mean soft. Jane is fully committed to 'tough liberalism' and the pledge to put an extra 10,000 policemen and women on the streets.

Jane said, "This is a measure that will have a real impact on improving people's lives by reducing the fear of crime and putting more local police officers into local communities. It has far more benefits than the Government's optional identity card scheme. That's why we believe spending the ID card money on getting 10,000 more police is a much better use of funds."

Communities in both the rural and urban areas of the North-East Milton Keynes constituency that suffer from anti-social behaviour, thefts and break-ins, drug dealing and other persistent crime would see noticeable improvements from the Liberal Democrats' proposals.
