Liberal Democrat Council on Target to Make Further Efficiency Savings

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 26th Jul 2005

Milton Keynes Council is on target to make higher than average efficiency savings over the next year.

The Council made 2.9% savings last year - compared to the Government's target of 1.7% - and is set to continue 'busting the books' with a projected saving of 3.4% in the current financial year - again considerably higher than the nationally recommended level (2.5%), and higher than the average for all local authorities.

Councillor Cec Tallack, Liberal Democrat cabinet member for performance, said: "We inherited an inefficient council from Labour and we are definitely tightening things up. We are working more smoothly and efficiently, and we are confident we can continue improving above the norm."
