Milton Keynes Liberal Democrats' Pledges for Local Elections on 4 May

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 11th Apr 2006

The Liberal Democrats are standing on their record of delivering real service improvements while keeping council tax levels below the national average. In neighbouring Conservative South Bedfordshire, residents pay on average £5 per week more.

The Liberal Democrat Manifesto 'Delivering a better future' highlights key achievements and promises further service improvements, many of which are already in the pipeline:

  • Overall satisfaction levels with the Council are improving

  • Recycling rates have been tripled following introduction of the popular pink sacks and green garden bin schemes; recycling of litter is planned

  • Built eight new schools and more under construction - schools now open in new areas as families arrive, not years later

  • An Extracare village is being built for local older people; it is so popular that a second is being planned

• The increase in bus travel is one of the highest outside London, and more improvements to bus services are on the way.
