Milton Keynes on Casino Shortlist

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 29th May 2006

Milton Keynes has been shortlisted as one of the Government's sites for a potential casino. Milton Keynes is one of 31 towns and cities that have been shortlisted to move onto the next stage, after applying for both a large casino and small casino licence.

This news, from the Casino Advisory Panel, has been welcomed by the key players in leisure and the economy in Milton Keynes.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Euan Henderson, cabinet member whose responsibilities include leisure and economy, said: "This is another step on the road to increasing the leisure and recreation offer in Milton Keynes. It will help us further develop the area's reputation as a visitor and business destination with a top class leisure and cultural offer.

Sean Hickey, Chief Executive of Milton Keynes and North Buckinghamshire Chamber of Commerce said: "It's fantastic news that we are recognised as potential area for a casino licence as it reinforces the signals that Milton Keynes is developing a real regional and national force for business, leisure and culture."

Work now starts on gathering the information required by the panel, who are expected to make final decision by the end of the year.
